I was glad to get a review of Google Aps and learn a little more about how to use my Smartboard. The session I got the most out of was The First Days of School. Though I am not a new teacher, it was a nice reminder on how to start the year successfully and build rapport with each of my students. I have a renewed excitement for the first day of school!

As I reflect from the trainings that I attended, I feel that I have a plethora of tools in my teacher toolkit to help me be successful this coming school year. I learned good strategies for the first several days/ weeks of school for helping to create a positive learning environment with my students and fostering personalized learning. I learned about digital citizenship and several good ways to help explain the importance of it to students. I attended a session on the library and how to better utilize what it offers above and beyond just the databases. Finally I attended a session on classroom culture and how to use each student as a piece of the classroom puzzle instead of treating them like a hindrance. Overall, these trainings were very beneficial and I feel much more prepared headed into this school year.

As i reflect on today's training, The secondary ed chat provided opportunities to become an effective teacher in the classroom. The First Days of School, Cooperative Learning, Formative Assessment, and Culture and Building Relationship Building were the sessions i attended. The First Days of schools gives teacher the opportunity to set the tone for the first days of school. For example, creating a social contract that focuses on expectations by teacher and student is an activity that high on my priority list. The Cooperative Learning class is essential for teachers not knowing how to properly group students. Some examples i plan to implement are Heterogeneous, Homogeneous, or Random grouping. The last strategy that i learned today that i plan to implement is the 4 gears strategy i saw from a video. I am going to call it 4 quarters. The strategy helps with transitions in the classroom. The 1st quarter is Active Listening, 2nd quarter is Independent work, 3 quarter is group collaborating, and the 4th quarter regards teamwork. The 4th quarter is where i will assess the class and provides an opportunity to reteach.

In the first day of school training I was reminded of several classroom management tools that allow and keep the student engaged. These include personalized learning, a time to think independently, feedback, could be through discussion, warmup, exit ticket, etc. Reflection gives a student an opportunity to improve or correct an assignment. Check for understanding can be through formative assessment, quiz, or journal entries. One other part of the training that helped me was giving the students a more active roll in cooperative learning lessons. Over all the training was right on and helpful.

What I will really take away from today is the use of formative assessments. I need to take more time in better assessing my students before the summative tests. Most presenters did a very good job in using their presentations to model different methods of formative assessment that made it easier to see how it could be implemented in the classroom. The article "Every day and Every classroom" was very informative on including this on each part of a lesson. Quick relevant feedback is also a very important component that I need to improve on.

I really loved the evidence-based reasoning seminar. Most of my students don't understand the steps in the Scientific Process because they don't really understand the difference between a conjecture or an opinion and a provable fact. Denise Fisher took us through the process, and my aha moment was in her insistence that we introduce the method using non-scientific examples. Who is the best musician in the world? This is something most of our students have an opinion about, and taking them the steps of making your claim, providing evidence for your claim, and then reasoning through how your evidence proves your claim. They can explore the process without getting hung up on "big" scientific words.

The first day of school is so important to having that happen. i realize that i need to be there with a smile and a kind word and make my students know that i want them there. That it is important that my students feel that my classroom is a safe learning environment. To realize that all my students come from different cultures and be receptive to them. That at the end of my class i want to be sure to give them time to reflect on what as happen. In reflection, I learned much more from presenting than participating as an attendee in other presentations - even though other presenters and presentations have been very interesting and helpful. I was able to collaborate with Jace Daily to help determine how to present the many resources and the opportunities we offer for collaboration for all teachers. Teachers were also able to offer example of collaborations they have experienced and I think many questions were answered and doors opened to future collaborations. We all learn from each other. As a side note, I was also able to take the Office 365 class from one of our great new librarians at CISD, Heather Lamb and I learned about a new presentation program, Sway, that'd I'd like to try.

My day started off in Flipped Classrooms. I am looking forward creating flipped lessons for the CE library. I am also considering having a flipped classroom approach to book clubs. Using a blog might be a good way for students to interact about a book while using technology. Then I attended Google Apps with the lovely and talented Jessica Batchko. Today I have made contact with a school librarian in Illinois who has agreed to GoogleHangout and do some mystery library activities. My friend's daughter is spending the semester in Australia. There is a 15 hour time difference. I know she would be willing to Skype with us but figuring out a time might be tricky. Next I went to KidBlog. I am looking forward to supporting teachers and motivating the next generation of bloggers. I also think we could pair up older more experienced bloggers with our younger students. I need practice on my SMART board. The CE library has been used for meetings this week and I haven't had an opportunity to try it out. I am eager to implement what I have learned. The Twitter Chat was a good way to start the day. Might have been interesting to end the day with Twitter as well.

My goal for this year is to use flipped lessons. I see the many ways they can be beneficial. 8/18/2016 04:17:23 pm
During today's professional learning the three strategies that I think will impact and transform student learning are students using Weebly, students keeping data notebooks, and teachers using online formative assessments such as Menti, Socrative, and Quizizz. Students using Weebly to create their own blogs is important because they will be able to express themselves and personalize their own website. Data notebooks will impact student learning by allowing their to set their own goals and see the results. And the formative assessments are instrumental in student growth. Here's the link to Menti if you've never heard of it. https://www.menti.com/

I collaborated with others Kidblog and the course of Flipped Lessons. We must have a indset change in order for an adoption of flipped learnings to take place. The best would be when a group of teachers plan and implement flipped lessons. When key teachers make the mental switch they should be supported thru the transformations. Make flipped lesson teams a part of the fabric of your school. Try modeling and ask a co teacher to respond. Motivate students to do the lessons planned.

My final workshop session today was told that we didn't have to fulfill the rubric originally set for the day's completion. We were asked to reflect on three things that we would implement in our own classrooms. From the think Tank workshop I would like to include the research projects that extend into such things as postcards, commercials, google hangouts, etc. From the data notebooks workshop I really like the the notebook for my students to track their own progress and take some ownership in their efforts. I will definitely use that. In the Smart board presentation she showed us the Smart Exchange website to get high interest lessons and student led centers from. I am looking forward to using all three of these things in my classroom this year.

I enthusiastic about the prospect of implementing some of the innovative ideas that I came away with today. Third grade ELA is is going to utilize Mentimeter to engage students and collaborate about a Classroom Compact. We are going to integrate S.S. with setting up the norms for our classroom and Reading. Secondly,I am excited about the possibilities of increased exposure to professionals and other students from around the world with Google Plus. Today was a wonderful learning opportunity. I was able to gain so many things I can and will use in my classroom. The Think Tank class gave me the chance to work with the other ELA/SS teachers to create a project to use to introduce the idea of community which is one of the third grade TEKS we need to cover in Social Studies in third grade. We came up with a project based learning activity the students will be able to hit the ground running with. We also learned about menti.com and how we can create a word cloud. The Flipped Lesson class gave me the chance to work on ideas that I can use to help promote my students learning and help keep them on track. It showed us and gave us the chance to work with different sites to create the flipped lessons. I think after attending the class I will be able to use the flipped lessons to help my tier 2 students when they need an extra teaching time. Data notebooks was very helpful and allowed me to create a plan for our grade level data notebooks.I am excited to give the students ownership of their learning. The google doc that was shared with us was gave us a great source of information so we can create the best resource for our the student. Goggle apps was wonderful, it gave me the chance to become comfortable with the different applications, so that I can model the different apps with my students. The resources that were provided today make the upcoming school year exciting. It will be a year that the students get the chance to take real ownership of their learning. I think that we have been provided the tools to allow the students to really grow.

I plan on using GoogleSlides to have students work in groups while also sharing information as a class. This will allow me to see in real time exactly what all students are working on and to provide feedback and notes. I also plan to use google+ as a teacher resource to find people and information that will better improve my teaching strategies. I love that we were able to choose our own professional development!!

It is an excellent idea to create a safe community environment for our students. In Maslow's Hierarchy of needs it is clear that we need to establish a safe and secure environment before we can even expect our students to learn. That relationship of trust and respect are instrumental in creating a safe learning environment.

Of the many things that I learned to day in our Professional Learning time 3 stood out. The first, was learning to get the students to argue based on evidence and reasoning. In my AP classes the students struggle to provide enough evidence and details to fully argue their position. The C-E-R model will help me with this. The second piece that I learned was to make sure and give my students proper reflection. Instead of only giving a grade I need to make sure my students know what they did wrong and what they did right specifically. The third strategy I learned was to incorporate google docs into my classroom. This will allow students to collaborate with each other on assignments and work together to solve problems. It will also allow my students to communicate with individuals about subjects outside of CISD.

Marika's course on Culture was very eye-opening. It helps us educators keep an empathetic tone throughout all of our classes and for all of our students. In all of my classes I will be able to: let students know that I believe in them, and I will never let them give up on themselves; I will also be able to use formative assessments like Q&A Mix-Up and Four Corners to keep my classes engaged and on track; and I will be able to use Google Drive technology to keep my classes grounded in technology use in our classroom. Three strategies that I can implement in my classroom are claim, evidence, and reasoning (CER). Another is having the students create a classroom culture by allowing them to give me their expectations of me and what their expectations are of them as students. Another strategy that I have seen modeled by the presenters is how to gain the students' attention with the count down 3-2-1. As I look back at all of the fine training that we have received today, I find myself feeling like my "toolbox" is full of some very good strategies to help me as I prepare for the 2016-2017 school year. One strategy I learned dealt with the first day of school. I have always tried to make it a practice to show up early for each day of school, but I never seemed to have a defined purpose for being there early. After attending the first day of school session, I have a better understanding of using that time that I have before the beginning of the school day to prepare to greet my students as enthusiastically as I can. Sometimes the day could have started off bad, but that time before the school day begins can be used to "get over it" and be ready to be the best teacher I can be for my students. Another strategy that I will certainly be using was a strategy for doing formative assessments in my classes. I particularly loved the strategy called "Bump In The Road". Basically, you get to the middle portion of your lesson and you stop and ask your students if they have anything that they don't understand and what exactly makes it hard to understand. It is an excellent way to see where I, as a teacher, need to revise my teaching method. Finally, in my last session, I learned how important student digital portfolios are vital to measuring students' success, especially as we are empowering them to take ownership of their learning. Seeing the students create their own criteria makes the learning process a truly innovative process.

As I reflect on the trainings I attended today I find that two of my sessions were focused on communication. "No significant learning can take place without a significant relationship." As the choir director, I am lucky enough to have some of my students for 3, 4, or even 7 years. I get to work to build those relationships while the kids are changing over the years. The student I had in 6th grade is not the same kid when he gets to 9th grade or when he graduates. Harry Wong's strategies from "The First Days of School" (http://www.effectiveteaching.com/) prove effective at all grade levels. Using techniques from Capturing Kids' Hearts offers the same connections to seniors and kindergartners. If there are darlings that challenge you on some days, Dr. Ellis smiles and says "fake it 'till you feel it." Building relationships is an important part of teaching - so important that it is a part of T-TESS! The learning environment, routines, and procedures create a culture where students can achieve more than they think they can. Together, everyone achieves more!

I like the direction that the AP program is moving to help students reach a high level of learning. The lesson cycle provides a template to go off of for each unit. I learned that each step is not necessarily a daily event, but it helps you be accountable for timing the class to meet the needs of the students. Formative assessment and closure are important so that students can reflect of their learning. Reflection time worked into the unit is necessary to have students retain knowledge. I also gained some resources on how to give formative assessments using technology and differentiated strategies to provide learning styles for all students (https://www.nwea.org/blog/2015/growing-list-50-digital-education-tools-apps-formative-assessment-success/). The first day of school session provided some great ideas to implement in my own classroom for the first day of school the discussion led by Dr. Ellis and the teachers in the room gave further insight in my approach to the first day and how to model expectations moving into the first couple weeks of school.

One of the most important things that I learned in today's sessions is that in order to have successful classroom management throughout the year, you have to build a comfortable culture in your classroom in order for students to want to invest in the learning easier. If you take the time to show the students that your class is not the only thing that matter is life, then that will go a long way when it comes to discipline issues that may arise. Students have a life outside of school that is completely different than ours. Expect the unexpected, and assume nothing, but teach everything.

The three strategies I learned today are taking the time to reflect, the importance of effective listening, and different ways to engage students in higher order thinking. Reflection has many facets and is important because reflecting on how we teach enhances its meaning. Reflecting on classroom experiences encourages insight and complex learning and supports pedagogy and instructional strategies. We foster our own growth and support student growth when we reflect. Effective listening has become even more important with our implementation of our PLC's. Almost everyone sincerely believes that he or she listens effectively. Consequently, very few people think they need to develop their listening skills. But, in fact, listening effectively is something that very few of us can do. A simple exercise today showed me that this is an area for growth for me. It's not because listening effectively is so difficult, most of us have just never developed the habits that would make us effective listeners. When you become an effective listener, you reach a higher level of commitment from your students and coworkers. Lastly, students who engage in higher-order thinking go beyond the basic levels of comprehension. This is why it is critical that we achieve this in our classrooms. Students who can analyze, synthesize, evaluate, and interpret a lesson will succeed.

I agree. It's amazing how the simple act of listening to your students (or to anyone for that matter) can make them feel that you care. Often times I ask my students questions, not because I want to see if they know something, but because I want to know what they think. It's transformative to the environment of the classroom because it creates a space where the students feel that their socioemotional needs are being met. Good job, House Stark!

I will read the book, "Habits of Mind" by A. Casta for increasing student achievement. If I do not establish positive culture and relationship building, my classroom behavior will suffer. All of the professional classes were awesome! I learned a great deal about students portfolios and the importance for our students to keep one up to date during their years in school. Blogging will definitely be a new tool that I will implement in class to get students to reflect on what they have learned, what they still feel is a challenge, and just to express themselves freely. All the strategies are important to impact students learning and growth through the smart exchange board skills that will advance their learning learned in professional development and allowing the students to have a choice/voice through blogs.

1. I learned about a strategy called "Musical Chair Notes". Students take notes while the teacher presents a lesson. Periodically throughout the lesson the teacher stops and lets students consult with their neighbor/partner. They can read each other's notes and add things to their own notes that they might have missed. Students take notes at different rates so this gives the slower students a chance to catch up. It also provides a little break during longer lessons.

The first thing I learned about was I Do - We Do - You Do instruction in the classroom. This is a method of teaching that involves starting the unit with an attention grabber, making your objective clear, demonstrating the skills to be acquired (this can be done in a variety of different ways), having the students collaborate together during the instruction, individual practice, and having a closure activity. I like the format of this and would easily be able to apply it to an algebra classroom. It would give the students an opportunity to see me work problems, get to practice with their peers, and then work individually. This way, they would be a lot more confident during the individual work. I especially like the idea of the unit attention grabber and got several good ideas from other math teachers in the class.

Three strategies that I learned about today during the professional learning strategies that I will implement into my classroom are voicethread, formative assessment, and google apps. The strategies shown are important because they all focus on some critical component to students learning. Implementing voicethread into my class can allow my students to peer review their essays, lab reports, or do discussions about specific science topics. My students could record a video/audio discussing their lab, which could then be listened to by other students to make suggestions prior to submitting a formal lab report. Using google apps, my students can collaborate to make different presentations or write papers, or answer questions together as a group. The strategies learned in formative assessment gave me more ways to help assess my students, such as using 3-2-1, or four corners. I could have my students us 3-2-1 as exit tickets to ensure they understood the material for the day. This website could also be useful to help teachers find more ways to formatively asses their students’ knowledge. Since part of formative assessment is ensuring that you are using a variety of techniques to assess or students, having access to a lot of different techniques is very useful. Others could benefit by learning these strategies because it would also help them to learn different ways to formatively assess their students. Voicethread and google apps both provide engaging ways for students to collaborate with each other, which is critical in progressing out students understanding.

Your opening sentence could use another look. Watch your prepositions. But, it seems that you've added a lot of new tools to your toolbox so I'm glad that you were able to load up on resources for the new year. I do appreciate how specific you were about how you plan on implementing these tools, because now I can easily see how they'd be valuable in my class as well.

From the first session that I attended, I took away some strategies to help my students stay engaged in the lesson. Quickly learning and using student names builds an instant report with students. Strategic grouping and role assignments gives every one a job and a responsibility within the group. Holding students accountable for their work enhances the likelihood that it will get done. Harry Wong's "First Days of School" was a recommended source.

I thought spiral was a great way to engage students into providing 5 star answers as well! How great that you can give immediate feedback if the answer is not within the target range and the feedback is personal, not in front of the whole class. Yet, there was such a positive feedback when the students get to see their responses on the smartboard.

Lots of great information being shared today to ensure the start of a new year growing the minds of tomorrow! I especially enjoyed the course on creating our teacher portfolios. Being able to research and discover the power behind a digital portfolio, not only for the teachers but for the students as well! A way to showcase our talents and "a-ha" moments in the classroom. Having the portfolio encompasses creating a learner's voice, meaningful personal goals, and a customized learning path for teachers and students alike. Here is a link I used during my Edcamp course for the importance of a portfolio beyond the classroom setting. http://electronicportfolios.com/portfolios/EPDevProcess.html

Professional learning camp was very helpful today. I especially found the First Days of School class with Dr. Ellis very beneficial. As a new teacher, I have thought alot about lesson plans and how important they are but really needed some basic information on preparing for the first day of school. This class provided a list of things to think about such as assigning seats the first day, making sure I am well rested and smiling at every student as they enter my classroom. This weekend I will come up with a method for assigning seats, create a contract or a way for the class to generate one, and think of other ways to make them feel welcome and safe in my classroom. Now, I am ready to receive my students and make a good first impression. Great class!

I went to some awesome Professional Learnings today! The first strategy I want to share about was the Culture/ Relationship Building session. We did some great activities, and also learned about even more activities to help us build a positive culture in our classrooms. One strategy I like from this session was a simply back and forth mini-journal between the student and the teacher. This allows students to ask questions they might have been afraid to ask, and it also gives the teacher an opportunity to give positive feedback to each student every day. In the Formal Assessment session, I found the DOK (Depth of Knowledge) question stems as a great tool to help teachers to ask better questions for our students. When we ask the higher level questions we challenge our students to higher level learning. As a first year teacher I had concerns if I was going to be able to come up with high level thinking questions. With this document I can just glance over and add subject material into the questions given on the document. In the First Days of School session I got some awesome tips on how to make my classroom a welcoming environment. We practiced a strategy of having the students come up with teacher and student expectations and go over that as a class. This gives students input on what they believe the teacher and students should be doing in class. This gives the students more accountability since they had a say in what the class procedures should be. By building this positive culture in my classroom, I believe my students will be more open to sharing and also be more engaged in the class!

I love that you're going to use blogging! Students love it, but in the past I have been somewhat timid about using it because their writing isn't perfect and "outsiders" can see it. But I've realized that their blogs are less about me and what I've taught them in regard to spelling, conventions, etc., and more about their authentic thought processes. And maybe feedback from people in the world outside of our classroom will help them feel an urgency about correcting those grammar mistakes and putting their best foot forward!

I agree with Christi....I love how you want to incorporate blogs into the classroom! I did this last year and loved it. Though I understand where Christi is coming from in terms of hesitation about what they publish, I still think it is vital. Truthfully, I didn't think my students represented me poorly. Most were pretty on target, and if they weren't, myself or a peer commented to help them correct their errors.

As I reflect on the training's I attended today there are many strategies, ideas, and opportunities for our students to learn. How we incorporate what we have learned will determine the success we have in classrooms, campuses, and district. There many tools available we must know how to use them effectively in our instruction in meeting every child's needs from learning the alphabet to developing our student to be college career ready. What we learn today cannot stop today, it must transform to great teaching and positive learning environments. There are many great things we can do with the knowledge we have and have acquired. Now is just simply doing it; implementing into our daily teaching habits.

As I reflect on the training today, I see several ways in which education is changing. Formative assessments can come in a variety of forms, and that is a good thing. They should be varied, as the the learning styles of kids vary. The formative assessment is not to be a one-time shot, nor is it supposed to be only after the lesson is over. It should be started before the lesson, and then monitored throughout the lesson. One online formative assessment, Answer Garden, is a tremendous way to allow kids to utilize technology to show what they know and believe about an issue, and then to spur discussion and debate at another level. Libraries have changed so much, and the kids need to know more about this resource of resources! They already see books, but there are so many options beyond just the paper and print. They can check out ebooks that are available for two weeks, and they can research from home. Finally, Google for Education is a whole new alternative to Microsoft products, and they can be used from a variety of platforms. They allow kids to store, create, and develop material that reflects learning at higher levels.

The diagrams above are showing what we need as educators in order to make our students successful. There are so many ways to reach our students and we need to be open to learning these instructional methods in order to reach our students where they are at. The below link is a greate article on feedback. I was reminded in a training today of how important feedback is to the learners success. Not only is feedback important but the type of feedback and the way at which it is given.

Three strategies I learned today that I would like to take and implement within my coursework are Claim evidence reasoning, round table discussion in which students provide the questions to guide discussion, and many of the strategies discussed in the Culture and Relationship building class. I believe that building each of these instructional strategies into my coursework is important as the pertain to building a culture of learning in the classroom. It is important to create an environment in which students not only feel comfortable with you but also with their peers in the classroom. In science we discuss, present, and complete tasks in group for a large amount of our curriculum making the environment and culture of the classroom a vital part of the learning process. I believe that other classes could benefit from the same culture building to increase student engagement in all subjects. How would learning increase if students all felt comfortable in their classroom environment. I have seen this work through my own experience with one class that was based on social/emotional growth of students where through the use of these strategies I observed a class of very different individuals become a cohesive unit in which all students were comfortable sharing in the group.

As I reflect on today's training my biggest challenge is finding how to institute all the strategies I have learned. Although I wish I could use them all, I know that some may not apply to my content area. My favorite training, Culture and Relationship Building, is an invaluable tool that taught me some strategies that can be applied to all my classes. Many, if not all, of my students can greatly benefit from the simple yet powerful approaches. Many of our kids seek understanding and patience from us yet sometimes we don’t react in an acceptable manner. Treating them with dignity and respect can help build stronger connections that will help our students realize their full potential.

Today I learned multiple strategies that I can implement in the classroom. In the first day of school session I will be able to use strategies to build relationships with my students. It is very Important the first 10 days of school to build relationships and set high expectations for my students. One very good idea that I will use will be for my students to make a t chart and the students fill out what they expect from me as a teacher and what I should expect out of them as my students. At the end we will make it as a contract and they will sign it and it will be in the classroom for the remainder of the year. It will hold the students accountable because they were the ones who set up the contract.

In my Smart Board learning session, I learned about how to clean the board, orient the board and show and hide the floating tool bar. We had 2 important tips that were shared with us: *When trying to create pages, make sure that the Auto-hide button is unchecked. *Use your fingernail, not the pad of your fingers when using the boards. (I wished that some of the presenters would have known this today! lol) We were told that www.exchange.smarttech.com already has lessons that are build for the smart board. We were shown how to add more tools and edit existing ones. All of this knowledge will really help with the INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES and help engage the students more.

What I have enjoyed today is how so many of the things that were discussed were not necessarily new things for me to learn, but were things that I should always be aware of; things that are not just for the beginning of the school year, but strategies or philosophies/practices that need to be done throughout the year. One of the strategies that I know that I will want to continue to implement is blended learning. The idea that students don’t have to have me lecturing to them five days a week is a given, but not having students feel that they are anchored to my room can be very liberating. It also ties into my lesson cycle training in which we learned about the gradual release model. Blended learning is all about gradual release because the release is not just metaphorical, but physical as well. That said, students do not have to be in a blended learning class to experience the freedom that can be given in the gradual release model. How to be able to accomplish the blended learning and gradual release though is not possible without establishing the proper culture through a social contract. Establishing the expectations of what students expect from teachers, what the students expect from each other, and what the teacher expects from the students is essential.

Gradual Release Model/ Lesson Cycle- The gradual release model coincides with the PLC process. It is designed for multiple opportunities for assessment and intervention which will create comparable data with which to propel the collaborative process forward. This will transform planning which will in turn transform the lessons. Mr. Spurlock made us aware of a great resource to further enhance our understanding of metacognition. It is a book writtien by Arhur Costa entitled Habit of Mind.

I acquired a plethora of information today- from how to create a friendly environment for my schools on day one to what the SAMR Model looks like in the classroom. Each component I gleamed today I’m sure I’ll incorporate in some form or fashion in the classroom. In my first training I learned that students should be involved in setting the expectations for themselves and their teacher in the classroom. This creates a family dynamic where we not only support each other academically, but we also redirect each other and make sure that everybody is operating at their best level of competency. This instructional strategy of having the kids develop the rules and even taking control of some of the lessons being taught helps with classroom management and helps kids feel a level of responsibility for their learning. Different websites like tweetdeck.twitter.com, spiral.ac, and reminder101 unites students, teachers, and parents under one electronic umbrella and gives each party a chance to reach out to the other with questions, comments and concerns.

I have learned a large amount today. Some was more instructional, like how to use my SMART board, while others dove into deepening understanding and learning. The three strategies I will be using in my room are presenting lessons using my SMART Board, utilizing VoiceThread on my Canvas page, and focusing my lessons on the SAMR Model. The strategies provided on the diagrams show us the path to transformation and also provide a model on how our learning is connected to our voice and our choice. To transform our classrooms, we must not only have the standards/curriculum tied to our knowledge of our pedagogy/strategies, but we must also learn how to work technology into those two. The honeycomb diagram shows how choosing our courses to bolster our profiles can deepen our students learning, as well. I found a helpful article on Tech4Learning that discussed the 21st century and how the 3Rs meet the 4Cs. It goes into how to advance technology in the class room and provides examples of what teachers can use to deepen the learning. I found the Transforming Teaching course very interesting and this article helped to frame it in different terms for me while providing some actual examples of what to use. The article can be found at http://web.tech4learning.com/blog-0/bid/45149/The-21st-century-classroom-where-the-3-R-s-meet-the-4-C-s.

I also learned about multiple ways to place students into cooperative grouping. One of the strategies made me realize it would be a great way to group inclusion students because of the structure that is involved 3. In classroom culture we talked about how important it is to build relationships with our students and establish a culture norm for our classes. One thing I do is from Capturing Kids hearts. The series of 4 questions that the students answer are discussed and develops the norms of how each class culture will be.

Reflecting on the Professional Learning courses taken today, I have a better understanding of building a digital portfolio and the differences between formative vs. summative assessments and the positive impact it can have on me as an educator and more importantly on my students. Encouraging my students to create a digital portfolio is only going to help them in their long journey to graduation and hopefully a post high school education. Formative assessments like 2 stars and a wish, bump in the road, 3 2 1, and empty outlines are fantastic ways of monitoring my student's progress and helping then be successful. These assessments utilize socialization, communication, reading, writing, and problem solving to name a few. All of these skills are crucial in developing a well rounded 21st century learner.

One of the three strategies that I learned today were deeper learning through Blogger/Weebly by using the blogs as a student portfolio. In hope, throughout the years the students will build a portfolio that they will be able to take with them to College/Career field. The portfolios will show growth and how the students were able to communicate their progress. Two was something that happened to me through this last year. I had my students create a presentation and we had a mishap of deleting an entire slide. I learned that I was able to click SEE REVISION HISTORY and that would bring the whole thing back again. Three was with the Smart board. I thought I was a pro with it and then I found so many interactive games that have already ready been built for our use. One strategy I learned about today during professional learning is having students create a student portfolio for my physical education class. Student portfolios should show student growth, which in physical education can be done through videos, reflection, as well as fitness tracking. One resources to use with students when creating a student portfolio is Weebly (www.weebly.com). Based on the diagram shown, this strategy aligns with T-Tess Instruction dimension 2.1. All teachers could benefit from using a student portfolio to show progress not only in their content area, but also as a student moves from one grade to another their work can move with them. For example, writing teachers would be able to view writing samples from the previous year to see growth from one year to the next.

Depending on what the cooperating activity is will help me determine how to mix my students up into different groups. I loved having the roles for the group members and how those roles were also used to call on students for participation. Talking chips are going to be utilized in my classes. Quiz, Quiz, Trade will be a great activity to use to help the students study for tests. These activities will be great to use for formative assessment tools as well as hopefully keeping my students more engaged. Reflection, which includes summary, is such an important part of the learning process. I will include Cornell notes in their notebooks which incorporate a summary/reflection section. Feedback is critical to student learning but they need feedback that grows the learning process. One site we explored today that I will try out for my classroom is spiral.ac which is an expanded form of Kahoot and provides feedback and student interaction. In cooperative learning, I learned multiple things that I will try throughout the year such as grouping strategies, roles assignments, and talking chips. All of these will enhance my student's learning process.

As I reflect on the day, I think about all the useful information I learned and the many possibilities for its use in my classes this year. First, Weebly and blogger seem very user friendly and can be used by all students to create e-portfolios. I had always believed student portfolios only included the best work from students, not realizing that the process/reflection of how students reached that final product should be included, as well. This link http://electronicportfolios.org/balance/Balancing2.htm has a great graphic for the different ways students can use an e-portfolio. I plan to teach my students how to reflect on their cooking labs through blogs or a weebly website. Secondly, the session on College Readiness was very powerful. I had no real idea that college readiness and those discussions should actually start in Kindergarten instead of in high school and that 90% of students who have a future college plan before middle school will actually attend college. I plan to continue to encourage students to attend college and help them when they need it. I remember being a first generation college student myself, and want to help my students be as college ready as possible. Lastly, I learned how to add feedback to my rubrics in Canvas and the importance of timely feedback. I know that in the past I have had students complain about other staff who they did not feel gave timely feedback, and I do not want to be one of those.

The professional learning sessions were very informative. I started the day in with Dr. Ellis, who not only gave great examples of strategies for the first day of school, but modeled them with the same enthusiasm she always seems to have anytime I've seen her speak. She was 100 percent correct when she shared that it is more important to make the day about the kids, rather than the teacher talking about themselves. Teacher and student expectations for each class which are derived from a combined effort will make for a better classroom environment throughout the year. I also gained from Stephanie Martinez and her presentation on "Voicethread". We often have issues with attendance and group projects are often hampered. This program allows my students to work outside of the classroom and allows me to hold them more accountable when they are not in school. Finally, Kellie Kelsoe's presentation on "Weebly" has given me some ideas on how to better encourage students to utilize digital portfolio's not just for their class work, but to build a lasting picture they can use when looking at college or applying for employment positions in the future. Overall, it was a very worthwhile day and will benefit me and my students throughout the upcoming year.

I will use blogs as a reflection tool to improve metacognition, Google slides for student collaboration for self and peer monitoring, SmartBoard activities for interactive and engaging lessons or interventions, and many different types of formative assessments to monitor progress, needs and provide feedback. As I reflect on my trainings from today, I am taking away first the foundational knowledge of the new Office 365 system. I am thankful to know the basics as it will help me to experiment on ways to implement it in my classroom. One component of One Note that I am eager to use is Sway for my students digital presentations. Secondly, I set up my first Weebly blog and was able to collaborate with grade level teachers in my session on how to use Weebly to connect fine arts and core curricula. The student blogging session was the perfect transition into the student portfolio session during which I was able to see how to use Weebly as a portfolio of student progress. I believe this will transform the way students feel about their own progress. It is important to celebrate student success and I feel that these digital portfolios will be an efficient way to accomplish this. I do intend to do more research for a program that tis geared towards a visual portfolio, as opposed to a broad academic one. Finally, I am going to use Voice Thread via my Canvas account to allow students an avenue to evaluate and critically respond to artwork, something I have found challenging in the past. This will be a transformative implementation because it will give new life to art criticism.

Today I learned about SmartBoard activities to use in the classroom as well as how to modify SmartExchange Notebooks that have already been created in order to make them geared for my classroom. I also learned about social and emotional learning and how teaching students about social skills can help them be more focused during the school day. I also learned about effective student feedback and that proper modeling is needed in order for student to student feedback to be effective within the classroom. All of these strategies are important within the classroom because they adhere to student needs and allow teachers to be more effective, especially for the students. By incorporating these within the classroom students will be transformed by interactive activities on the Smartboard and becoming more hands on, they will also be transformed into more social and emotional competent students which will improve their learning, and effective feedback will transform how students talk to one another and how they can improve their classwork and learning.

Looking back at today’s class. Focusing on “Feedback” is something I really need to work on. Telling a student good job simply isn’t good enough anymore. Feedback needs to be specific to the action the learner is attempting. By providing more specific feedback students can then focus on what is specifically needed.

Three strategies I plan to implement are collaborative learning, student-led interactive technology lessons, and social emotional learning. Collaborative learning is important because it gives students the chance to apply their skills in problem-solving situations and they can hone their relational skills. Student-led activities give students choice and responsibility for their learning. With both of these strategies, students retain the knowledge better and dive into deeper learning. Because these strategies are research based, all educators can get some benefit from implementing these strategies and improve their student's "buy-in" to their school environment. ALL of these strategies transform the classroom from being traditionally teacher/lecture focused to student focused.

As I reflect on my professional learning today, I have learned several strategies that I can implement in my fourth grade classroom. In my Think Tank Transforming Stations into Long-Term Project Opportunities, I learned about Project Based Learning rather than having stations. These projects stem from a guiding question and allows students to conduct their own research and do different assignments that help them answer that question. Incorporating Student-led Activities using my SMARTBoard gave me many resources to use with my SMARTboard that are student centered. Heather Lamb also showed us several tips to use that ease learning how to use the Smart Board. Creating Student Portfolios with April Scott gave me a great example of a teacher who used student portfolios through Weebly. This teacher linked each students' weebly portfolio from her own Weebly website, and each student was in charge of their own weebly, providing choices for students.

The first strategy I learned about today was how to effectively implement SMARTBoard activities into daily lessons. The SMARTBoard allows students to be actively involved in their own learning. Although this can be intimidating to teachers that have never used it, it opens up so many avenues of learning for the students. The second strategy that I learned about and would like to implement into my classroom is social and emotional learning. Teaching students about social skills helps them better understand and control themselves, while also forming stronger relationships with other students. If students learn how to do this, it will create a more stable and effective learning environment. The third and final strategy that I feel will transform student learning, is how to give effective feedback, student to student and teacher to teacher. Students must be given timely, polite, honest, and open feedback from their teacher and other students. If teachers would implement these strategies into their every day classrooms, their students' learning would be transformed by the creative innovation that captures their attention and the relationships that they are building with their teacher and peers.

Three strategies I would implement into the classsroom after my training today are giving good feedback to students, implementing student to student feedback in my classroom utilizing the wall poster that I made, and ffinally getting to the higher levels of the SAMR models by transforming my lessons. All of the strategies in the diagram have to do with improving and adjusting instruction to make sure that students are learning successfully at the highest level possible. Implimenting these strategies can transform my classroom by making my students more successful and confident in their learning. While giving feedback and using assessments is great, using that information to adjust instruction is what it really boils down to. If no changes and adjustments to instruction are made then the same results will be achieved over and over. The article I read http://www.edutopia.org/blog/tips-providing-students-meaningful-feedback-marianne-stenger gave 5 tips for providing meaningful feedback that gave information on how to be specific, actionable, timely, and respectful.

I used kahoot several times over the last two years, but that was the only one I had ever used. My students loved kahoot. However, Amber Grier showed me some new formative assessments and even shared how she used them in her classroom. One strategy that I learned today in my professional learning community was the use of flipped learning activities. This is something that I can implement in my classroom immediately and use both as a resource for homework and in the classroom in areas such as learning stations and RTI. Another strategy that I focused on was learning features of the SMART board that I wasn't aware of. I will use the SMART exchange site to look for SMART notebook activities that relate to the lessons I am teaching. This will help me to be more efficient as a teacher. A third strategy that I learned was the use of student data notebooks. This is an exciting opportunity to allow students to be more independent in their own learning process. I would like to implement this in my classroom and use the data during student led conferences with parents. Finally, the fourth strategy I learned was the use of online assessments. It would also allow students to collaborate as well as I am not the only person they can share with.

Today I learned strategies to implement flipped classrooms, ways to incorporate google apps, more on project based learning, and the importance of peer feedback. I learned that flipped classrooms, project based learning, and student data folders are all wonderful tools in creating a classroom that is student centered and teacher facilitated. This will allow students to more effectively take ownership of their own learning. This will also create a culture of collaboration and advanced problem solving. As students become older and productive members of society, they will be able to better solve the problems of their communities on a scale as small as within their own lives to one that is universal or worldwide.

Cooperative Learning is a strategy I better understand after today. While I have used cooperative learning for group projects in the past, I have not use the 5-steps to ensure student success. I have already rethought how I will introduce PBL. First I need to teach mini-lesson on the skills students will need to work constructively as a team. I have added a link that gives more ideas on examples of Cooperative Learning in multiple disciplines.

During Professional Learning today, I learned a plethora of new information. The three things that I want to implement in my classroom are below. The first thing is adding online formative assessments in my classroom. I've already created a Plickers assessment for the first week of letters and sounds. The second thing I want to implement is more flipped lessons and adding them to my professional webpage. I have ideas to use flipped lessons on our homework packet once a week for all content areas. I learned about the app Show me and how easy it is to navigate. I will be able to use these flipped lessons for interventions and extensions. The last thing that I will be implementing is Student Data Notebooks. My team and I were able to collaborate and make a plan for the notebooks which will be a great resource and tool for showing student data and progress throughout the year. Thank you for a great professional learning day!

During my training today I learned how to easily implement flipped lessons using ShowMe. I think this will get my students engaged in the lesson even before discussing it during class. I also learned how to create a Student Data Binder. Giving students the opportunity to own their learning will be a big thing in my classroom this year, and the binders will really help us stay organized. Online assessments was a very interesting session. I learned how to create and implement them to be able to check my students understanding immediately and be able to provide immediate feedback.

Three things that I am taking to use in my classroom are: using kidblog to get my students blogging, using flipped lessons to extend my lessons in the classroom from home, and maximizing my use of my smartboard through meaningful activities that I can obtain through the resources I learned about (i.e. smartexchange, or teacherslovesmartboards.com). The strategies listed above are very useful and important because they contribute to educating the whole child and individualizing instruction.

I would say I learned more than just three things from today sessions. The first thing I learned is to better implement the UPS check to meet the needs of all students in a word problem by adding extra information or simplifying the numbers. I also learned how to utilize models within working out a word problem, as well as ask provoking questions that get our students to think and work out these problems on their own. I also learned how to better implement kidblog within the classroom so I can create a student collaboration between my classroom as well as others. I am excited to use this within my classroom to publish student writing, to invite parents and my students to collaborate with others. I learned how to make professional connections outside of our local community my students can connect with others to enhance their learning. I also learned as well on how to utilize the new testing app “TANGO” to test with TPRI this year. I am excited to utilize this app within the classroom with the new resources to meet the needs of all students from Tier 2 to Tier 3. I am excited to implement these strategies within the classroom, and can’t wait to see what this year has in store!

Today I learned how social emotional needs are just as important as academic needs. Somethings I want to take back to my school to help all my kiddos is to look into the SEL standards to address all kid’s needs. I want to see how I can put those in my daily learning with kids. I also want to work on getting my kids up and moving around to teach them control with their body and listening to directions. Teaching these skills is important and helpful for each and every student. Lastly, I want to help my teachers to see the importance of these emotional needs and how they can fit them in their everyday tasks. Giving teachers resources to implement these will be important to make this easy and exciting way to enhance their students learning and attitude.

As a teacher intern I have learned new information, like: SAMR and how it enhances Bloom's in technology, this allows the students to create google docs and share their documents, give feedback, create multi-media videos to share publicly. I have learned that it's ok to have student-to-student feedback, so as long as teacher is modeling what is expected and making sure that all feedback is positive and constructive... The 4 steps to positive feedback are: specific, actionable, timely, and respectful. Lastly, I learned that office 365 has so many options to use for yourself and for your students, so many apps are included in this program, for example Sway is just like PowerPoint but it does everything for you, you can create blogs, or have students make their own portfolios.

Today was very informative in how I can further impliment technology into my classroom. One strategy I learned today during PL was how to use Google + to connect with other professionals around the world and bring their knowledge and wisdom into my classrooms with my kids, A second strategy I used was how to implement the technology of the SMARTboard into my lessons. Lastly, how to create a Flipped Lesson with my SMART Notebook software, record what I am doing on the screen (video and audio) and create a flip lesson with this and post on my weebly for students. All of these strategies are important because through communication and technology I am improving my instructional strategies to meet state standards and my personal standards as a teacher. Super excited to implement everything I learned.

Third strategy i plan to work on and I'm excited to use is the Kidblog, I cant wait to see what my kinder baby's do!

One of the strategies that I plan to take back to my classroom is elaborating on my cooperative learning. I never considered using team building strategies before implementing the cooperative learning groups in my class. This will build the rapport between students and limit conflicts. Another strategy that I took away from today’s Ed Camp is dealing with feedback. I have been trying to improve my timeliness of my feedback since last year, but I did not incorporate the student's goals in my feedback. If they have a goal to connect to the feedback, they can monitor their progress even more without the teacher’s help. Also, the students will include what their best work looks like. This is a good way to help them understand when they have succeeded in mastering an objective. The third idea that I would like to use in my classroom involves Google Hangouts. I think it would be amazing if the students were to record themselves in class completing a science lab so their parents could view them at a later date or time. I could then post that on our class website so it can be viewed anytime.

During my morning session with David Vasquez I took away a lot. I learned the difference between cooperative and collaborative learning. Cooperative means that you are working with other classroom, groups, or schools outside of your own classroom. Collaborative is what is happening inside the classroom and how your students are connecting and interacting with one another. Also, in this training I learned the steps needed to make for students to really understand and implement collaboration with one another. The steps are:

Today I was able to participate in two classes(I presented for 2 classes), and was really impressed with the amount of information I learned. I took a classes on flipped classrooms and student data folders. I really liked the information presented in both and found several useful examples that I will be able to implement into my plans. One resource that I want to start right away is student data folders. There were so many ways to track student progress such as attendance, reading levels, test grades, and so much more. I want to begin by giving each student their own data folder and have them be responsible for tracking their individual progress. I feel this is an important part of student growth. The more aware they are of their progress, the more motivated to improve and grow. The other class, flipping lessons, I found several new ways to record lessons at home for my students that I am excited to try. One is edpuzzle. I liked the feature that allow you to stop the video and ask questions, the students can respond with answer, and then it will grade the results. How easy and fun! There were several ideas shared on how to incorporated flipped lessons into your class and how to motivate students to do those lessons at home. This is a great resource for parents, for students that can work faster, and for students who are struggling for and need extra support.

One thing I learned about was Project Based Learning and how I can incorporate projects in specific lessons aligned with our guiding document. 4th grade thought of great additions to the already created project given to us for our first unit of Regions in Texas. We will be collaborating across the district with other classes to share information we learned while creating the project and debating with other classes. I also brushed up on techniques using blogging. I started blogging last year, but I can see now how easy student blogging can be incorporated in my class and allows students to give student to student feedback. Lastly, during Collaborative/Cooperative Learning I realized the importance of setting up an environment for cooperative learning to take place. In class, we got to know our group personally, and by doing that, we knew a little bit more about our group members and made us feel more comfortable. I will encourage my cooperative groups to do something similar before starting out to ensure all students feel comfortable with their cooperative learning environment.

I am so excited to start using online formative assessments. In all honesty, I have been reluctant to use online assessments in the past. However, after today's session with Amber Grier I am so excited! Today we were able to participate in using some of the different online assessments. The whole time we were using each one I was thinking of the different ways that I could use them in my class....which is way different from my thoughts in the past. I feel like online assessments will benefit my students! When we used quizizz today it did not even feel like I was taking a "test". How awesome for our kiddos to be giving us as teachers the data we need, but yet they are having fun. Here is a great link I found about formative assessments for math. I want to start using this for end of units, quick checking for understanding, and much more. Plickers is a great way to check for understanding. Again so excited to use these. Another thing I am excited to implement this year is a data notebook. In the past, I have only had my kids track their reading and math scores from their CBA's and benchmarks. But wow, what a great I idea to start having kids track their attendance and behavior where they can see it on a daily base. I also can't wait to have the kiddos reflect in their data notebooks. I want to see in their words how they feel, that has been a piece that has been missing. I would have a quick discussion but they can not go back and see what we talked about. The third thing that I am excited to try more of is flipped lessons. Last year I did one at the end of the year. I kept putting it off and off because I thought that it was going to be hard. However, after I did the one I saw how easy it was. One of my goals this year to do more flipped lessons so that I can help my kiddos and parents.

Throughout today’s sessions I learned so many things! In the Collaborative Learning session I learned about a step by step process the teacher should follow when introducing collaborative groups in their classroom. I especially loved the team building activities we discussed and plan to use them during the first few weeks of school and when introducing collaborative groups with my kids. The second strategy I learned was in the Transforming Student Behavior training about Second Step. I learned how to meet the social and emotional needs of students rather than just academic. There are a lot of great lessons about solving problems/disagreements and being assertive. Although, my school does not implement this, I will certainly use these techniques in my classroom and research more about it! The third strategy I learned was from the Google Apps for Education/Real World Connection training. I learned about Google Hangouts and how to participate in one. I have never done a Google Hangout before and I think it would be really fun and engaging for our kids, even if it was just with another class at our school or beyond! Overall, I took away a lot from these trainings and have so many ideas that I would like to use this year. I feel inspired!

One of the memorable and critical observations I made during our training sessions today was a synchronicity between two sessions that were very different in subject matter. I went to David Vasquez’s session on Collaborative learning for one of my morning sessions and we discussed the problems that hinder collaboration and two of them were related to students’ lack of emotional readiness and communication skills. If the students have difficulties dealing with certain emotions or have communication issues related to that, then how can we expect them to productively work together with a team? Those issues have to be addressed and students have to develop a rapport with one another and a connection to be able to effectively collaborate.

First, I am excited about using the Tango app to give TPRI and track student growth. The comprehensive data sheet looks like it will be easy to read and see how students are progressing. This report will be easy for students to see their progress and track it in their data binders. Second, I intend to use data binders this year as I think this will help my students take on more responsibility for their learning and make them interested in their progress. Some students need to see it in black and white or color, where they are and where they need to move to, I want to learn more about google docs and start trying to use them with my students. I think it is a great idea that students can give feedback to their peers because their peers can talk to them differently than a teacher can and they tend to listen to each other more than they do adults. These strategies will benefit my students by giving them more input and turn their learning over to them more.

One thing I learned today was how to introduce and use UPS check in my second grade classroom. I will model the first semester the parts of UPS check, but not explain it as understand, plan, solve and check at first. As the second semester approaches, I will begin to introduce each part of the process to them. Beginning with Understand, we will work on this part of the problem solving process and do lots of we do’s before they do the I do part. As I feel they are success, we will move on to the I do for Understand and begin we do for the plan. I will continue this process until they have been introduced and become success with each part of the UPS check process. After this session, I feel much more comforatble about using this in the classroom to help with problem solving in Math.

Today was awesome. Things are starting to come together. Prior to today, the words SAMR/BLOOM and UPS were foreign to me. Even though I hear them daily, they meant nothing to me. After my first two sessions, I had my aha moment. UPS/SAMR/BLOOM are great ways to transform, not only a classroom, but the students way of critical thinking. It also helps me, not only to challenge my students, but to constantly challenge myself as a teacher. Secondly, the way to reach out to the community through google hangout is a game changer. I found today to be very useful to being a resource/inclusion teacher. I really liked the session about checking for understanding using online assessments. I learned that I could assess my students on their IEP goals and objectives by using apps such as Socrative and Formative.com. I can keep accurate data on student IEP’s especially with students that are inclusion only. I also liked the idea that I could email the GenEd teacher and student to have assessments completed on IEP’s and they wouldn’t miss any GenEd classroom time by using the online assessments. I can then take that data and write their PLAAFP’s for ARD meetings and also use it for Progress Reporting Statements.

Strategy#1: Stephanie Martinez provided a great active listening strategy for partners. While partner 2 is actively listening, partner 1 has two minutes to explain everything they think. Partner 2 is then given 1 minute to repeat back everything partner 1 said. Partner 1 is then given a 30 second rebuttal time to clear up any misconceptions. They then trade places for Partner 2 to share their thoughts.

One of the strategies that I learned about today was how to use online resources to check for student understanding. There are tons of different sites that you can use to help gather information of how students are doing with reaching goals of mastery. One of the sites is GoFormative which allows you to give students a question and see what they are doing as they do it to solve the problem. They get immediate feedback on whether they are right or close to it being right. Another strategy that I learned more about today was collaboration. For this strategy to be effective you must set-up standards, behaviors needed to complete, and teach students the “why” and “how” we do it. This is another great way to give students feedback, but this time their peers have more input. The third strategy that I learned about was using Google Slides to collaborate. This allows for students to work together digitally, give feedback/comments to each other, and for the teacher to see who has done what through the revision history. This allows for multiple groups to be working on a separate space in a document, but be using the same presentation format.

*The Transforming Teaching and Learning training with Stephanie Martinez was mind changing for me in that I had the opportunity to interact with and study the 4 C's. Having students interact with them will enable them to expand their thinking outside of the classroom. Being a 5th grade teacher, our classrooms are 1:1 with iPad minis. This opens up the door for us to have students collaborate, communicate and be creative with their critical thinking. They can take a simple assignment and transform it to the next level. I really want to try to transform my lessons and activities this year to help students extend into the Modification and Redefinition sections of SAMR.

The first strategy that I would like to implement in my classroom is flipped lessons, which I have used, but would like to refine. This is important because it allows students to be exposed to multiple instructional methods, which is a part of our honeycomb model. In the past, I have used this strategy via Youtube, today I discovered the iPad ShowMe app. It is quick and available at school and home for students on iPads and all mobile devices. This app will solve many of the problems I would encounter using Youtube, such as the ability to watch it on student iPads. Flipped lessons allow teachers to use class time to do more activities with the content and leave the instruction part to the flipped lessons. They could also be used for students who need further instruction in a certain skill, especially during RTI and homework times. Flipped lessons can transform the classroom by allowing for more hands-on, interactive activities with the content.

I can't wait to hear all about this Show Me app! ;) Sounds like it solves a lot of problems with doing flipped lessons in the music classroom or from home! I also found some cool things on Smart Exchange that I can't wait to share with you and Becca during our PLC time!

The three strategies that I learned from today were Google apps for the real world (how to use google hang out,) how to encourage positive student social and emotional behavior, and how to enhance student collaboration in the classroom. Google hang out is one awesome tool to be able to connect my students to other student in the school or around the world. I definitely would like to use this tool to enhance learning in my classroom. I could make books come to life by connecting with the author or other students also studying that book. Second step was another classroom tool that I loved. I believe that it is very important to teach students how to interact with each other in social and emotional situations. Students must feel safe in the classroom, students need to be in small groups so that everyone has an opportunity to participate, and students much have expectations that are clearly defined to be successful. Without a positive social and emotional state students are unable to reach their full potential in their learning. Lastly, I enjoyed learning about how to encourage collaboration in the classroom. I really liked the tennis ball strategy on getting student to collaborate together on how fast they can touch the ball.

Tango: In second grade we use TPRI to assess our students three times a year. Prior to the Tango system, we used a system called Mclass. In Mclass we got students’ data back, but had to do a huge amount of work to search for interventions and activities to help the students that needed extra support. In Tango, the work is done for us. Tango groups the kids and provides all of the interventions and activities for us so we as teachers can really focus our instruction on individual student needs.

I agree about google hangouts. I even thought we could give the kids the choice of who they want to connect with and let them write questions.

I thought the data notebooks session was also very informative. Students need to take responsibility for their learning and this will help them with that.

Share three strategies you learned about today during your Professional Learning Sessions that you will implement into your classroom. Look at the diagrams above and explain why these strategies are important? Provide information or links to additional information which supports or enhances what you have learned about today. How could others benefit from learning about these strategies? How can implementing these three strategies transform student learning in your classroom? Respond to two discussions posted by a colleague. Review the rubric to ensure you have addressed all key components in your Reflection.

I learned in my Tango class the new features that were not offered from Mclass. This is the 2nd grade ASSESSMENT for our reading instruction. I will use the data to form my groups and help guide my students into their learning goals. This will be a user friendly tool to find lessons for small group, RTI as well as easy access to the resources for those lessons.

I enjoyed learning from my peers with more experience. All this technology is new to me, but I see the advantage to all. Now I need much more time on it to become proficient. The most immediate tool I think will be from the Smart board session. I also hope to improve my feedback skills

My first session today was on creating flipped learning activities. I found this session geared well for my first grade classroom. Flipping the lesson will enable me to be more efficient with my time as well as my student's time. Those that complete the lesson at home will be able to move on to higher level activities like creating a reader's theater. I'm also really excited about using KidBlog. I love the teacher's ability to proof student responses prior to final publishing. Digital citizenship becomes easily addressed. Incorporating student led activities using my SMART Board was a good review of it's attributes. Love the cloning application for math manipulatives and I looking forward to checking out Exchange.smarttech.com for additional lessons and students led centers.

Today in Elementary Ed I was given a lot of new information and ideas. I felt like every session was very informative and all the instructors were very knowledgeable. Three things that I felt that I could use most in my classroom were the online assessment plickers.com and goformative, google apps and creating smartboard activities.. I plan on using the plickers.com and goformative to assess my students. Before this session I really did not have many ideas on how to use an online assessments for kindergarten. Goformative will allow students to illustrate things online and allow me to keep record. This will just be so much more organized way to assess then stick notes and journals. The hangout app and google+ app will definitely be used for planning ideas and for my students to collaborate with another classroom. I plan on using the smartboard more often in my daily five, morning message and more activities for lessons.

Today I learned about Kidblog and I am excited to be able to use this with my K-2nd grade classes by having them reflect on different things we are learning in our classes. I would also like to use the blog to find out about my students’ interests and feelings about being physically active. I also learned some new ways to flip lessons so that I can teach and review skills that we have covered in class. It will also provide a way for parents to be able to help their child work on a skill at home after they see the flipped lesson. I think flipped lessons would be a great way to present some health lessons more in depth that we don’t normally have a lot of time to cover in class. I learned how to use Google Slides as a collaborative tool in my classroom. I think that would be a great way to use technology in my class as a form of assessment to check on my students’ understanding. It would also be a great tool for us to use in some of our team building activities.
