REQUIREMENTS
Requirements for Continued Professional Education (CPE)
In compliance with the Texas Administrative Code, Continuing Professional Education (CPE) is mandatory for all Texas educators. Holders of the Standard Classroom Teacher Certificate shall complete 150 clock-hours of CPE every five years. In addition, refer to the TEA professional development website for information concerning certificate renewal and CPE tracking requirements.

Castleberry ISD provides professional learning opportunities within the teacher work calendar along with opportunities to attend trainings during the summer months and on weekends. Teachers attending these trainings will receive CPE credits based on the individual trainings. If the professional learning is offered in the district, these credits will be issued in Eduphoria. If the professional learning is offered outside of the district, then the teacher can submit a certificate of completion to have the CPE credits added to their Eduphoria portfolio.

Participants will review the latest research in biliteracy development, compare and contrast sequential and simultaneous bilinguals, and participate in sample biliteracy instruction including the Bridge between languages. Description: All K-12 teachers are required to be ESL certified. This two-day training (12 CPE credits) will provide participants with the research foundation and content addressed in the domains and competencies of the ESL TExES examination. As part of the development of an understanding of second-language acquisition and the challenges facing the English language learner, best practices for effective instruction will be shared. Secondary - (1) Prior to assignment in the program, teachers who provide instruction and services that are a part of the program for gifted students have a minimum of 30 hours of staff development that includes nature and needs of gifted/talented students, assessing student needs, and curriculum and instruction for gifted students. (2) Teachers without training required in paragraph (1) of this section who provide instruction and services that are part of the gifted/talented program must complete the 30-hour training requirement within one semester. (2) Administrators and counselors who have authority for program decisions have a minimum of six hours of professional development that includes nature and needs of gifted/talented students and program options. Description: Participants will review characteristics of GT students, GT learner and teacher profiles. Learners will be introduced to the 4 Ps (Pace, Path, Process and Product) instruction in Castleberry along with depth and complexity strategies using lesson frameworks and depth and complexity icons.
